Kew Palm House One

Kew Palm House One

This painting is inspired by a visit to Kew Gardens where in the Palm Houses, leaf upon leaf overlaps, in complex layers, the scent of flowers tempts and the intricacies of the leaves’ delicate designs enchant as light streams through them.

Leaves of fuchsia pink, lemon yellow, teal and ice blue are offset against peach highlights on top of a warm, light grey background in this delicately balanced composition.

This series of paintings marvels at the wonders of the natural world, seeking to highlight the variety in shapes and colours and impress upon the viewer its preciousness but also precariousness.
