This strikingly unique original oil painting is inspired by the patterns that exist within nature and the beauty and fascination that they hold.

The abstracted shapes and patterns in this painting were inspired by photographs of ponds from above, which seem to present other-worldly views into mysterious landscapes.

A swirling, finely-blended background of white, shamrock green, Prussian and sky blue is layered over with abstracted patterns of teal, grey-purple, off-white and grey, creating a delicately balanced composition which draws the viewer into its layered patterns and mysterious depths.

As part of my working process, I immerse myself in nature, photographing what I find. I then use Photoshop as a means of sketching and experimenting with composition before finally using oil paint as an emotive and expressive vehicle to create the finished work.

I often use glaze medium to build translucency and depth of colour, resulting in luminous, jewel-bright colours and glossy highlights on key areas.
